Brad Wieferich, P.E.
Bradley C. Wieferich, P.E., was appointed director of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) on May 30, 2023, by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. He has served the department for nearly 30 years in several capacities throughout the state, working his way up through vital management roles in the Transportation Service Centers in Mt. Pleasant, Lansing, and Marshall, later as engineer of design, director of the Bureau of Development and then as Chief Operations Officer and Chief Engineer.
Throughout his time at the department, he has been a champion of innovation, advocating for innovative contracting methods, building for resiliency, and putting an emphasis on Context Sensitive Solutions and safety in design. Brad is a leader at MDOT, as well as nationally, by serving on AASHTO’s Board of Directors. He also represents the department on Michigan’s Council on Future Mobility and Electrification, the ITS Michigan Board of Directors, and the Mackinac Bridge Authority. Brad is a graduate of Michigan State University (’92) and holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
Tony Geara, P.E., PTOE
For over 5 years, Tony Geara has been committed to making Detroit’s streets safer for everyone at the City of Detroit. As a Traffic Engineer, Tony’s work focuses on improving road safety and reducing accidents.
Tony is the Deputy Chief of the City of Detroit’s Office of Mobility Innovation. He is currently leading the charge on Detroit MODES, a cutting-edge initiative aimed at saving lives through advanced, innovative solutions. His dedication is helping Detroit move closer to its vision of zero roadway deaths.
Alyssa Ryan, Ph.D., EIT, M.ASCE
Alyssa Ryan is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan State University. Her research primarily focuses on the intersection of transportation safety and equity with human factors, unmanned aerial system (UAS) applications, traffic operations, and resource allocation. Her research has been disseminated through numerous journal articles, including Transportation Research Part F: Traffic Psychology and Behavior, Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment, and Accident Analysis and Prevention.
Ryan is an active member of several professional societies and committees, including ITE and ASCE. She currently serves as member and executive team member of two Transportation Research Board Committees, including the Women and Gender in Transportation Committee and the Strategic Management Committee.
